Our History

Paaralang Pinoy, a project of the Filipino Ministry of Northern Virginia, started out as a Philippine CULTURE and LANGUAGE enrichment program designed for rising 1st grader to rising 5th grader Filipino-Americans. It began in October 2007 with sessions at St. Bernadette Catholic School in Springfield.

A faculty of teacher-volunteers, who share an interest in teaching and a passion for sharing their knowledge about the Philippines, teach the classes. They are dedicated to strengthening the children's pride of their Pilipino heritage and to facilitating their discovery of the richness of Pilipino culture, traditions, history, geography, and language. These volunteers have undergone a national criminal background check and are Virtus-certified as stipulated by the Diocese of Arlington.

In 2018, PP became an umbrella organization dedicated to strengthening the youth’s pride of their Filipino heritage and to facilitating their discovery of the richness of Filipino culture, traditions, history, geography, and language.  Through various programs, PP will continue to support the Fil-Am youth in areas such as music, culture and arts, youth leadership formation, and a parent-assisted co-op program.
